On Sunday, August 28, over 3,000 people will participate in the swim during the 10th anniversary of the City Swim Amsterdam. The City Swim is a swimming competition that raises money for ALS. This muscle disease is still irreversible, and scientific research is desperately needed. The City Swimmers contribute to this important cause in a unique way. 

The 10th anniversary edition

The route for the anniversary edition of the City Swim is also 'different' this year. Namely, reversed. The swimmers start in the Keizersgracht, after which they swim via the Magere Brug over the Amstel towards the Martineterrein. 

On this beautiful route through the start, they see not only many cheering supporters but also a number of Unique Venues of Amsterdam. Not surprising, of course, since these can be found throughout the city. 

Along the City Swim route, you will find the following beautiful locations: 

1. Hermitage
   First, the swimmers pass the classic building on the Amstel, known as the Hermitage Amsterdam. In addition to being a museum, it is an event venue set within the building's 17th-century decor. Also note that they often host events in the inner courtyard, such as Wijnen in de Tuin on September 3 and 4.

2. Hortus
   A green oasis in Amsterdam. One of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. Distinctive rooms with a unique character. And exclusive access to the garden outside closing hours.

3. Portuguese Synagogue
   The Portuguese Synagogue is not to be missed in the Jewish Cultural Quarter. The former main building dates back to 1675 and still serves as a house of prayer.

4. National Maritime Museum
   This large, imposing building on the Martine grounds is certainly unmissable. Swimmers can see the Maritime Museum approaching from a distance, serving as a beacon for the finish line. Furthermore, the Maritime Museum is the starting location for the Kids City Swim this year.

5. NEMO
   Here it is at last! After more than 2 kilometers, the swimmers arrive near the NEMO Science Museum. In the world of interactive science and technology, special events with a view of the water are also held. And let's not forget; they have a beautiful rooftop terrace overlooking the finish area.
