On Saturday, August 23, the monumental doors of the Amsterdam Conference Centre Beurs van Berlage swing wide open. Not just for a guided tour, but for a day when the entire building comes to life. A day when, young or old, you can experience what architect Hendrik Petrus Berlage envisioned more than a hundred years ago: a palazzo pubblico, a house of the people. A place that connects, inspires, and invites encounter.

The Beurs van Berlage is no ordinary monument. It is a Gesamtkunstwerk, a total experience in which architecture, art, craft, and society come together. Berlage designed it not only as a place of trade, but as an anchor point in the city. Here, the bricks are more than building material, the light entering more than illumination, and the poetry on the walls more than decoration. Everything tells a larger story: that of equality, wonder, and progress.
What can you expect?
During this open day, you will not only discover the impressive building itself, but also meet inspiring Amsterdam initiatives and entrepreneurs, such as Stichting Literaire Activiteiten Amsterdam (SLAA), Heinen Delfts Blauw, Eberhardjes, Henri Willig, and FC Centrum. Together, they are bringing the Beurs back to life, exactly as Berlage originally intended.
Highlights of the day:
🎵 Let children drum in the monumental Beurs – Make drums and breathe life into a centuries-old tradition.
📜 Discover the poetry of Albert Verwey in an interactive form – old words, new forms.
🎨 Meet the creative entrepreneurs and organizations of today – the makers, thinkers, and dreamers of Amsterdam.
🎶 Let yourself be surprised by musical acts – from classical to modern, all inspired by the building.
🧱 And of course: immerse yourself in the rich history of the Stock Exchange itself – with guided tours and stories from Stock Exchange staff that you would otherwise never hear.
