Ins and outs of this case
Imagine this: you are asked to host the largest live political TV event at your event venue in Amsterdam. And that venue just happens to have reopened after a long renovation. And coincidentally, we are in the middle of the COVID-19 lockdown. A curfew is in effect and testing is mandatory. Sounds like a challenge? Absolutely! That is the challenge they took on at Felix Meritis. Together with partners RTL, Faber, NEP, and Chain, this production was realized. The collaboration with the Amerpodia venues and RTL goes back years, and filming has taken place multiple times at locations such as the Rode Hoed. This time, for the first time—under these unusual circumstances—at Felix!
The most unique aspect of this case
What was the most unique aspect of this case? Everything was unique! Felix Meritis, located on the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam, underwent renovations for over 3.5 years. Then, during the lockdown, the venue opened. Small recordings and events took place, but the first large-scale event in the renovated building was the RTL Election Debate. A complex media production in a 'new' location with many applicable COVID protocols. The most current TV event, visible live to millions of people at home. And of all years, perhaps more people watched this year than ever before due to the prevailing curfew.
What makes it a good match
The great thing about an event venue is the vibrancy. The many parties moving in and out. The diversity of events and professionals at work there every day. Something we have unfortunately been missing for quite some time, but certainly at Felix. Due to the renovation, that period was significantly extended. It was therefore a treat to see the RTL Election Debate take place at Felix. So many professionals and connections working with and around each other to achieve a single goal together.
The building was fully utilized and put to the test. The routing, logistics, and in this exceptional case, the technical capacity were challenged and optimized. It is certainly remarkable to see such a complex media production in a building with such a classic appearance and rich history. That truly completed the picture for us and made the match perfect.
This production is the result of a rock-solid collaboration between the various parties behind RTL, as well as our own Amerpodia team. We are therefore incredibly proud that this has led to such a successful production!
