‘'It continues to amaze me how the unique building can be transformed time and again,' summarizes Martien Stegeman, Sales and Event Manager at Amerpodia, the versatility of Red Hat Unconsciously put together perfectly. The Rode Hoed debate centre on the Keizersgracht is postponing the celebration of its 30th anniversary until a time when the festive debate it envisions is possible again without restrictions. In the meantime, everyone remains welcome at the Rode Hoed for events, debates, parties, cultural gatherings, or on the yoga mat. It all alternates at Rode Hoed!

With its hospitality, Rode Hoed builds upon its past as a safe haven: Amsterdam's oldest clandestine church has offered freedom of thought and assembly since the 17th century. Even in our time, Rode Hoed, free from political or religious affiliation, continues to offer shelter to intellectual work in progress.

Over the past 30 years, many memorable evenings and TV recordings have taken place in the impressive Huub Oosterhuis Hall. Named after the founder of the debate center in the former clandestine church, the hall is, without exaggeration, one of the most beautiful halls in Amsterdam. In front of the historic pulpit and the fantastic organ, whose main case dates back to 1718, it is a delightful place to dine after a day of conferencing. The venue prompts reflection, brings tranquility over a drink, and allows history to sink in.

Grand and intimate

‘'A house with character and soul,' is how Martien describes Rode Hoed. 'The interior is often compared to Paradiso. That is, of course, not surprising; the pop temple is also a former church building with galleries. Rode Hoed is smaller, and the wooden floors and beams betray a much older age: the clandestine church was built in 1630. The hall with its pillars and balconies is grand but retains an intimate feel thanks to the balustrades. This makes the hall extremely suitable for ceremonies, dinners, conferences, and parties. Martien: 'A great example of this versatility was Storytel's Halloween party last month. Rode Hoed is not an empty box; it quickly creates atmosphere. In this case, with a blood-red illuminated facade, all kinds of creepy entertainment, smoke machines, and a good band, a spooky atmosphere was established. The hall was a perfect fit here as well!'’

Amerpodia

Since 2017, Rode Hoed has been part of Amerpodia, wherever De Nieuwe Liefde, Felix Meritis and the Company Theater to be part of it. 'From catering to technology, we offer clients a full house service,' emphasizes Martien. 'Over the past 30 years, we have staged so many beautiful and versatile events that there are always examples to show what is possible. Moreover, we can draw on years of expertise to brainstorm your perfect event and help you choose the right stage.' Of course, a lot has changed over the past 30 years as well. 'The floor of Rode Hoed has been there for a very long time,' she laughs. 'But otherwise, we have naturally kept up with all technical innovations and have dedicated ourselves over the past few months to arranging livestreams for our clients.'‘

The loyal, returning clients are actually the best ambassadors. Martien: 'Apart from the fantastic venue, they also return because of the collaboration with our dedicated and committed team. Because the commercial revenue flows back into the cultural programs, you give your event an extra dimension and, moreover, you are giving something back!'‘
