Museum Night is coming up. One of the most special outings of the year. Naturally, many Unique Venues of Amsterdam are participating in Museum Night. Curious about where you can go? And what will be taking place? Read on!
Overview of the museum locations part of Museum Night:
- Van Gogh Museum
- Eye Filmmuseum
- The Maritime Museum
- NEMO science museum
- The Hermitage
Van Gogh Museum
During Museum Night, you will find everything at the Van Gogh Museum with the theme: Van Gogh Tells. A cozy, intimate evening where you get closer to the stories of Van Gogh, yourself, and others in multiple ways.
For example, join the Arty Farty Workshop and discover what is more beautiful: the art or your story? Listen to a storytelling tour, or watch from outside the museum as illustrator Nanna de Jong works on a large mural on site.
Join a dialogue about the power of storytelling and enjoy the sound of Tempo Não Pára and Yallah! Yallah!, because… dancing is finally allowed again!
Eye Filmmuseum
At Eye Filmmuseum, the love affair between film and theater takes center stage during Museum Night. This theme aligns with the exhibition. All About Theatre About Film, which you can of course visit throughout the evening.
In the Arena, you can experiment to your heart's content with light, sound, costumes, makeup, and set design. At the same time, you might be part of a new film, a new play, or a live recording.
LostProject presents the performance LostWords, you can visit the virtual reality Die Fernweh Oper, and our 75th anniversary is celebrated with an interactive presentation/quiz by Shanella Bleecke. DJs Cristel Ball and Cinema Royale provide the music.
The kick-off of Museum Night 2021 also takes place at Eye between 19:00 and 21:00!
The Maritime Museum
During Museum Night, a breath of fresh air blows through the museum: step aboard, listen to new stories about the old. Look at art and history with an open mind this night.
View the latest exhibitions: in I love Banda You will see how the turbulent past continues to influence the present of young people. With speed tours and in-gallery introductions, you will learn everything about marine painters. Willem van de Velde & Son from the 17th century. Father William sailed with the war fleet, and both father and son migrated to England to work for the English king. A Van de Velde beer or crispy fresh Frietje Zeeslag from the Captains Kitchen goes perfectly with that!
There is something to do throughout the museum and on the VOC ship Amsterdam: listen to spoken word performances by 'Wilde Woorden' or draw along on the 'Zee van papier' installation with artist Roos van Haaften. Engage in a conversation with the Canon of the Netherlands about famous names from the 17th century: were they golden or bad? Listen to and share your own stories on board the replica at the jetty during the Beyond Walls Take-over: an intervention on the VOC ship, or book a 5-minute speed date with photographer Isabelle Boon.
View old travel accounts in the library in a 'different light' and step aboard the steamship for a compelling story. Take a selfie in a life-sized seascape or create your own hero's medal.
NEMO science museum
During Museum Night on Saturday, November 6, 2021, NEMO Science Museum and the NEMO Studio will be all about ones and zeros and your online data. Sharing is caring, but aren't you leaving too many online breadcrumbs behind?
Go all-in and gamble with your personal data in our Big Data Casino. Grab your smartphone and create unique performance art! And how can you uncover state secrets using public data? Data detective Bellingcat will give a lecture on this that you won't want to miss.
The Hermitage
The Hermitage Amsterdam is, of course, also participating in Museum Night. Not only can the Hermitage's own "Romanovs Under the Spell of the Knights" exhibition be admired here, but also the Amsterdam Museum with the Dutch Masters and the outsider art exhibition - Democracy - in the museum's wings. As a visitor, you wander through this beautiful museum, where the church hall on the Amstel is transformed into the Garden of Love. Here, Helena Basilova plays a magnificent piano arrangement from Tristan and Isolde.
In the restaurant, which serves as a dance floor for this evening, you can see and hear Betty and Billy's Beatboutique. From Rock 'n' Roll and Disco to Funk and Jazz from the sixties to the present day! Be sure to stop by and experience the Hermitage in this unique setting during Museumn8!
