We welcome a new gem to our network, where culture, creativity, and meetings come together: Tolhuistuin. A large terrace on the IJ and a green oasis of a backyard. We spoke with the Tolhuistuin team about what makes this place so special.
What makes your location unique?
“We have a total of 3,500 m² of building space and 3,000 m² of garden, with 4 large halls and 6 breakout rooms or meeting rooms. All halls have a unique atmosphere. The combination of culture, a varied range of halls, a large terrace overlooking the IJ, a green backyard, and an in-house kitchen makes us special. Moreover, we are super centrally located, directly across from Central Station.”

What is the story behind Tolhuistuin?
“Tolhuistuin has a rich history as a former Shell site, built in the 1970s. Since then, it has grown into a cultural hotspot and meeting place, with a mix of public programming and social initiatives.”
Which events suit you well?
“Think of business meetings for up to 250 people with or without breakout sessions, meetings in our meeting rooms, atmospheric drinks receptions, and dinners.”
What message do you want to convey to your visitors?
“A relaxed experience with good service. With a large team, we ensure that everything runs smoothly, from technical aspects to catering.”

Can you give an example of an event?
“MozFest, a multi-day conference by Mozilla, used all our rooms for talks, workshops, and networking.”
Are there local collaborations?
“Certainly. Stichting Tolhuistuin and Paradiso organize cultural programs, and over 30
partners and organizations in our field.”

Why are you affiliated with Unique Venues?
“To join forces with other exceptional locations, share knowledge, strengthen each other, and enable more collaboration. It feels like a valuable network and a mark of quality.”
